History of the CR

The Community Residence Program serves dually diagnosed men, who are in need of intensive support and supervision in Onondaga and surrounding counties.

The program uses the Psychiatric Rehabilitation approach with assistance in daily living skills, money management, personal hygiene, socialization and supportive counseling. By offering a comfortable, well maintained residence the client is able to experience, often for the first time since the onset of illness, conditions conducive to human growth and development.

The staff provides a subtle structure in a supportive home-like atmosphere where basic human values, such as freedom of choice and accountability for one's own actions, can be taught and reinforced. Twenty-four-hour, seven day-a-week supervision is provided.

Each resident has a primary counselor who helps to reach recover goals through a variety of educational/social activities designed to enrich everyday living experiences. These may include a psycho-educational group program, peer group and leisure activities. The program is intended to provide rehabilitation and recovery and prevent re-hospitalization by providing a stable, chemical free environment.
