Susan's Place Open House 10/04/2011

The Open House on Tuesday, Oct. 4th was well attended by our peer agencies who continue to be guided by the spirit of Susan Holcomb. County Executive Joanie Mahoney and NYS Senator David Valesky commemorated the event with official proclamations with the County Executive declaring Oct. 4th as "Susan's Place Day"

Susan’s Place quietly opened in August  with staff serving our first consumers in this unique program open to women with disabilities with children. Beginning with eight beds open to women with mental health issues (certified by OMH and Medicaid Reimbursable), the program was launched.  In future, an additional twelve HUD certified beds are expected to be added, which would be open to women with any type of disability

A collaborative effort with our local Salvation Army, (who also saw the need for such housing), the support of our county Mental Health Department and in conjunction with the NYS Office of Mental Health (OMH) and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the program provides a much-needed service to the community by helping to move women and children out of shelter settings.
