County Probation Department Featured at CNYS Speaker Series 12/14/2011

CNYS staff had the opportunity to hear from Andrew Sicherman, Onondaga County Probation Administrator, during this month's CNYS Speaker Series. Our agency is a community resource and we welcomed the chance to learn more about how the probation process works. Mr. Sicherman detailed how the department is structured and explained the different focus areas: domestic violence and sexual offenses; DWI; juvenile justice; ISP; alternative to incarceration; and general supervision.
CNYS works closely with probation and our forensic department provides alternative to incarceration programming through our Recovery Case Management Services, headed by Marilyn Brown Shakir. Our other departments may have contact with probation but may not have had the chance to learn as much about how the probation process works. Mr. Sicherman provided valuable information about the department that our staff can utilize in the future, as well as answering specific questions for staff.
