NAACP Youth Host Health Conference 12/19/2011
Members of the NAACP Youth Chapter, parents, and presenters.
CNYS was happy to be part of the conference and hosted a presentation on mental health. Looking at mental health as integrated with physical health, Fern Whyland, Outreach Coordinator, spoke to teens about the importance of good mental health, how mental health impacts our physical health and how we can improve our mental health. Carol Perry, Community Engagement Specialist for OnCare, followed with information about local community supports available to teens and parents. Organizations that provided information on local supports were ARISE, Hillside, Contact and OnCare.
Other workshop presenters were Dr. Bruce Simmons, MD, Upstate Medical; Christina Murgia, Nature Tyme and John Jackson, Faith and Hope Center. The Conference gave teens a good overview of health topics followed by a skate party at the Black Mamba Skate Center.
